(Pittsfield)-Saturday, April 5, 2021-The Pittsfield Select Board is pleased to announce that the Rutland County Solid Waste District (RCSWD) has officially accepted the Town’s application to join the District. Pittsfield residents can now purchase permits to use the Gleason Transfer Station in Rutland at reduced in-district rates and bag/load fees. “This is a win-win move for our residents and the Town,” said Ann Kuendig, Chair of the Pittsfield Select Board. “Residents stand to pay less to take care of their household trash and recyclables are free. Plus, the Town saves thousands of dollars in membership fees by making this move to RCSWD.” Pittsfield residents can order and print their permits online at https://www.rcswd.com/. If you do not have internet access, please call or visit the administration offices at One Smith Road, in Rutland-802-775-7209 from 7:00am to 4:00pm. The permit allows Pittsfield residents and businesses (verified by vehicle registration) to utilize all residential, commercial and registered hauler services at the Gleason Transfer station for recycling, trash, food waste, household hazardous waste, construction & demolition, leaf & yard debris, tires, electronics, freon-containing appliance and scrap metal. The Transfer station, located at 14 Gleason Road in Rutland is open Monday through Saturday from 7:00am to 3:00pm. The RCSWD also sponsors rural collections of household hazardous waste at the district’s member facilities during the year. Pittsfield residents can bring their oil and latex paints, cleaners, disinfectants, pesticides fertilizers fungicides, herbicides, poisons, chemicals, fluorescent bulbs, auto fluids and finishers and used oil to the Killington Transfer Station, 2981 River Road in Killington on Saturday, April 17, 2021 for the first of two scheduled collections this year.
